Frequently Asked Questions

Registrars' role - after operational transfer

34.      How will the Registrar's role change after the Operational Transfer Date?

The Registrar’s role will not change after the OTD, but it will evolve. After the OTD, CIRA-certified Registrars will be able to register new .ca Domain Names for their Registrants under the new rules for registration. (Prior to the OTD, a new Applicant will need to go through www.cdnnet.ca to register a new .ca Domain Name.)

35.      Are the new rules developed?

CIRA is still in the process of developing new rules, policies and procedures for the registration of Domain Names.   These new policies will not apply until the Operational Transfer Date.  CIRA will give notice of these new Registration Rules to each CIRA- certified Registrar and will post these Registration Rules on its Web site at www.cira.ca when they have been adopted by CIRA. The new Registration Rules will come into effect and be binding on the Registrar seven (7) days after the giving of notice by CIRA.
