How many .ca Domain Names can an organization or
individual register?
Under existing rules, only
organizations are allowed to register Domain Names in the .ca Domain and are limited to only one Domain Name
registration.
When the new rules come into effect,
any qualifying individual or organization will be able to register an unlimited number of .ca Domain Names.
These new rules will be posted at www.cira.ca.

Can anything be registered as a Domain Name?
No. Applications for the registration
of Domain Names will be considered and either accepted or rejected in accordance with the new rules to be
developed by CIRA. The new rules will be posted at www.cira.ca

To whom will a Domain Name be registered, if there are
two requests for the same Domain Name?
Effective on the Operational
Transfer Date, expected to be later this fall, .ca Domain Names will be registered on a first-come, first-served
basis, in accordance with the Registration rules, provided that the Applicant and its certified Registrar meet
all the conditions for registration as well as CIRA's rules.

What is the dispute resolution process?
After the OTD, when CIRA begins
accepting new Domain Name application through CIRA-certified Registrars, CIRA will make available a dispute
resolution process to address disputes between Domain Name Registrants as well as between Domain Name Registrants
and those who claim trademarks and related rights. The dispute resolution process will take into account the
interests of Domain Name and trademark owners, as well as, Canada's intellectual property laws.

Why does CIRA need to have a .ca Domain Name dispute
resolution process?
CIRA's dispute resolution process
will provide a less costly and faster option than the courts for resolving disputes of entitlement between
trademark and Domain Name owners.
